Salonist runs bookings, staff schedules and payments for salons and spas worldwide. As salon owners started asking ChatGPT and Perplexity for software recommendations instead of typing them into Google, Salonist needed a presence in those answers too — not just a ranking on page one.

The Challenge
Salon owners researching new software increasingly ask an AI assistant directly — "what's the best scheduling software for a small salon" — instead of scrolling through ten blue links. Salonist ranked reasonably well on Google already, but when the same questions were put to ChatGPT, Perplexity or Gemini, it barely came up, and when it did, the details were often out of date.
Ranking on Google and being recommended by an AI model turned out to depend on different things. Assistants favour content they can extract cleanly, verify against other sources, and attribute with confidence — which meant Salonist's existing pages, written for skimming humans and search crawlers, weren't built for the way AI models actually read them.
